Cricket Australia likely to offer coaching job to Warnie

Sydney, Dec 22 (UNI) Shane Warne may have called it quits, but Cricket Australia is in no mood let him go and wants to keep the champion leg-spinner involved in the game by offering him a job in the Commonwealth Centre of Excellence at Brisbane.

CA chief executive James Sutherland said the star spinner would be requested to take up the responsibility of grooming spinners for the future on his retirement after the last two Ashes Tests.

''Shane has never been selfish about sharing with young talented cricketers, whether they come from Australia, another state or another country,'' Sutherland was quoted by the 'Daily Telegraph' as saying.

''That's one of the things I admire about him. He has always been willing to talk about his art,'' he added.

The man himself has, however, refused to reveal his plans for the future. Initially there were talks that Warne may take up commentary with Channel Nine but the leg-spinner has made it clear that he does not want to spend the rest of his life behind the micro-phone.

''I would like to be involved in some way but I am not sure what yet. I love Australian cricket and will do whatever it takes to keep Australian cricket at the top, whether that is to help out young spinners,'' he said while announcing his retirement yesterday.

''I am open for suggestions, whether it be business or cricket, or a combination of both. I haven't spoken yet to Channel 9 about becoming a commentator. I don't necessarily just want to finish up and end in the commentary box,'' he added.
