Cong Govt tried to stifle opposition voice

Hyderabad, Dec 22 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party has succeeded in exposing several misdeeds of the Congress government in the assembly despite trying to stifle the voice of opposition, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said today.

Talking to newspersons on the last day of the winter session of the Assembly, Mr Naidu said TDP had succeeded in exposing the violation of the Land Ceiling Act by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Instead of taking any action on the exposure, the government had brought an Act to regularise the irregularities committed by the Chief Minister, he regretted and demanded that people should be informed on the extent of land held under the illegal possession of Rajasekhara Reddy and his family members.

He said his party would carry on a relentless battle against Dr Reddy till he returned all the lands 'illegally' acquired and distribute them to the poor.

Asked about the discussion on 'Margadarsi Financiers,' a finance firm owned by a media baron, Mr Naidu said there was no need for such a discussion as the government had already appointed two officials to go into the affairs of the company. Instead, the House should have discussed more serious and burning issues like power shortage and rise in prices of essential commodities.

If the finance company had committed any irregularities, the Reserve Bank of India would take necessary action, he added.

The TDP leader alleged that the opposition was not given enough time for discussing the problems of the people.

CPI(M) floor leader Nomula Narasimhaiah said his party had functioned well during the session. It was due to his party's efforts that the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator project issue came up for discussion and also a debate was held on the implementation of the 610 GO, he said.
