Charan Singh's b'day tomorrow to be celebrated in a big way

Lucknow, Dec 22 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Choudhury Charan Singh in a big way tomorrow.

The former PM's son and Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh has expressed annoyance over the various decisions of the state government, including ''not so impressive'' state advisory price (SAP) of sugarcane. Mr Singh, though, has not threatened to sever ties with the ruling dispensation.

State officials said directives have been issued to all District Magistrates and Divisional Commissioners to ensure that the birth anniversary of Charan Singh be observed as 'Kisan Diwas' and be celebrated as a government function in a big way.

During day-long functions, seminars, fairs and exhibitions will be organised on the occassion at the district and block level.

State ministers have been asked to ensure their presence at functions organised in their native districts.

State Agricualtaure Production Commissioner has been asked to monitor the preperations being done by the DMs and Divisional Commisioners for the functions.

Earlier, former Chief Minister and BJP national president Rajnath Singh during his tenure had announced that the birth anniversary of Choudhury Charan Singh would be observed as 'Kisan Diwas'. But over the years the day becaming a lacklustre function organised in the districts.

Even Mr Yadav did not show much keeness about the celebrations, during the last three years of his regime, despite RLD being part of the ruling coalition. But due to the ensuing assembly polls, the state government this year is celebrating the day in a grand way.

RLD spokesman Anil Dubey said here it is a good start and added the government has realised the importance of Choudhuryji before the assembly polls.
