BJP begins review of poll-going states
Lucknow, Dec 22 (UNI) The BJP Executive today started reviewing reports from its units in poll-bound states to prepare its strategies for the coming assembly elections.
Briefing mediapersons, party General Secretary Arun Jaitley said that the party had taken up the review of states after getting reports from Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Manipur, Goa and Himachal Pradesh.
BJP President Rajnath Singh, in his inaugural address, had stressed the need to remove the incumbent Samajwadi Party government in UP from office for fair conduct of Assembly elections.
''Since the UPA was unwilling to bring the state under President's Rule, the challenges before the Election Commission had greatly increased,'' he said.
Top BJP leaders including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani were also due to address the Executive later this evening. Mr Singh, as well as these leaders, will address the two-day National Council meeting which started today. The Executive will also approve the contents of draft resolutions to be placed before the National Council, to be attended by over 3,000 delegates comprising of all elected MPs, MLAs, MLCs and office bearers of state units from all over the country.
