Arunachal to get Bamboo Technology Park in 2007

Itanagar, Dec 22: The Union Ministry of Science and Technology under its National Mission on Bamboo Application (NMBA) will help Arunachal Pradesh to set up a Bamboo Technology Park (BTP) at Pasighat in East Siang district next year.

The BTP would include a processing facility for intermediates (silvers, slats and sticks); a bambusetum; a bamboo treatment unit; a battery of charcoal kilns, a gasifier besides training area and support entrepreneurial units, NMBA Director V S Oberoi said.

''Bamboo or green gold could change the economy of Arunachal Pradesh as well as the entire Northeast'', he said adding, the state government has to provide land and power connection for the proposed park, which would help train entrepreneurs go for bamboo units.

NMBA would provide training to craftspersons and would organise demonstrative workshop in February, to be conducted by IIT Delhi, he said.
