Qaeda threat to Sonia an eye-opener for PM: BJP
Lucknow, Dec 22: The BJP today said media reports about the alleged al-Qaeda threats to Congress President Sonia Gandhi should be an 'eye-opener' for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who needed to 'revise' his views on handling terrorism.
BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley said the Prime Minister's views on the issue did not represent 'adequate policy' to deal with raging terror incidents across the country.
''While the country sees Pakistan as a perpetrator of terror, the Prime Minister is giving them a clean chit by declaring it a 'victim of terror' itself,'' he said.
Mr Jaitley said the threat reports were a matter of serious concern and the BJP expected the government to take appropriate action to deal with the situation.
Answering questions, he said the BJP had been warning the government about the emergence of Bangladesh as the alternative 'hub of terror' after the fencing of western sectors of India's borders.
The demand for dumping the IMDT and subsequent protests against amending the Foreigners' Act had been articulated keeping this threat perception in mind, he added.
