15th International Education conference to begin tomorrow

Chennai, Dec 2 (UNI) The two-day 15th International Education Conference and Gala awards function would be held here from tomorrow under the joint auspices of Amerian Federation of Muslims of Indian origin (AFMI) and the Organisation of Muslim Educational Institutions and Associations of Tamil Nadu (OMEIAT).

Informing this to mediapersons here, former Madras University Vice-Chancellor and Conference Chairman S Sathikh yesterday said the theme of the conference was 'Excellence in Education: A door to opportunity and a tool to face challenges'.

Over 600 personalities from different countries were expected to take part in the conference, he added.

During the conference, about 100 muslim students, who were school toppers in their respective states would be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. Some dedicated academicians and educationalists would also be honoured, he informed.

He said there would be four sessions of panel discussion on Prime Minister's 15-point programme for the educational development of minorities and impact of Sachar Commission report, Madarasa education and the recent Union Government's move to form a Central Madarasa Board, Muslim women's education in modern India and poor epresentation of Muslims in higher education-causes and remedies.

The main focus would be on how much benefit would flow from the 15-point programme to Muslims, the major constituent among the minorities and what was new in the Sachar Commission's recommendations.

Dr I Mohammed Bilal, Conference Organising Committee member and Dean (planning and development) of B S Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering Collge said Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali Azim Jah would inaugurate the conference, in the presence of Consul General of USA in Chennai David Hopper.

The AFMI had so far extended aids to over 15,000 Muslim students from different parts of the country for pursuing education, AFMI Secretary Ayub Khan said.
