Woman's husband, inlaws sentenced to life in dowry death case

Junagadh, Gujarat, Dec 21 (UNI) A fast track court here today sentenced four persons, including a woman, to life imprisonment for burning to death a woman for dowry.

Judge B S Oza also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on all of them.

The four had been charged with burning to death Zubeida Syed, aged 22, in Mangrol, about 60 kms from here in August last year.

Zubeida, who had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition, had in her dying declaration named her husband Syed Adam, her father-in-law Adam Qasam, her mother-in-law Hazrabibi and her brother-in-law Hasam. They had doused her with kerosene and set her on fire, she had said. The neighbours had admitted her to the hospital.

The four had been charged under Sections 302 and 498 of the IPC.

On the second charge, they have been sentenced to two years' imprisonment and Rs 2,500 fine.
