Volvo launches its new FM 400 tipper

Bangalore, Dec 21 (UNI) Volvo's Truck Division in India today announced the launch of its new FM 400 tipper with wider economy band and increased opportunities for better fuel efficiency, coupled with state-of-the-art features.

Speaking on the occasion here, Volvo Managing Director Eric Leblanc said the upgraded version was designed to aid operations and support Indian infrastructure, mining and construction projects.

The new vehicle was advanced and contained additional features involving hi-end technology, he explained.

He handed over the first batch of new tipper to its customers -- Gulf Oil Corporation, Mr V Prabhakar Reddy of VPR and Company, which owned over 150 Volvo trucks for mining operations across the country, and Dhansar Engineering Company represented by its Director Ravi Agarwalla. These customers together had placed order for 100 of these new Volvo and it would be delivered in the coming months.

Later, talking to newspersons, Mr Leblanc ruled out indigenisation of Volvo products at this stage, stating that the company needed to sell more vehicles. The company had plans to sell 600 trucks during this year as against 550 sold during last year.

He said the heavy duty truck operations had been facing a boom in India now and the growth rate was 40 per cent. There was a great demand for supply of this category of trucks, he added.
