SAD complains to EC on transfer of 11 senior police officers
Fatehgarh Sahib, Dec 21 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) strongly objected to the large scale transfers of 11 senior police officers by the Punjab Government just before the assembly elections and urged the Election Commission to review all these transfers immediately.
The party sent a detailed letter to the Chief Election Commissioner today under the signatures of party's Secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema.
In the letter, the SAD alleged that with an eye on the elections, the Punjab government was busy posting officers of its choice at various sensitive places in the state.
The party also demanded that to stop the illegal and unethical practices of the state government, the Commission should impose a model code of conduct in the state without any delay.
Describing these transfers as politically motivated, illegal and unethical, the SAD alleged, ''The timings of these transfers is highly suspicious. The state government wants to use these officers for electoral malpractices in the general elections to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.'' The party also reminded the Commission that even in the past, the state government has transferred a large number of district revenue officers, tehsildars and naib-tehsildars ignoring the guide lines of the Commission.
