Renowned Kashmiri poet Hakim Manzoor Ahmed passes away
Srinagar, Dec 21 (UNI) Renowned Kashmiri poet, journalist and writer Hakim Manzoor Ahmed died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi today after prolonged illness.
Ahmed, 70, is survived by wife and one son.
He was suffering from acute kidney problem since a long period of time.
Ahmed's body will be brought here from New Delhi tomorrow for burial at his ancestral graveyard at Gojwara in downtown city.
Born on January 17, 1937 at Srinagar, he had written more than 15 books. Some of his famous books in Urdu are Na Tamaam, Barf Ruton Ki Aag and Lahu Lamas Chinar.
Ahmed also served in the state administration in various capacities. He headed the Education Department and worked as the District Development Commissioner and the Custodian General besides the Jammu and Kashmir Resident Commissioner in New Delhi.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and his wife Shameema Azad have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the well-known poet, writer and editor.
Condoling Ahmed's death, both Mr Azad and his wife highlighted his contribution in the field of literature and poetry. They described him as one of the modern poets who used poetry not only for the sake of literature, but also reflected various aspects of the state and its people through this medium.
The Chief Minister and Ms Azad conveyed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
