Police arrested six and seize 145 Olive Ridleys

Kendrapada, Dec 21 (UNI) The Panikohile police have arrested six people and seized 145 endangered Olive Ridley Sea turtles packed in four gunny bags from Digha bound private bus at Sharma Petrol pump, 75 km from here.

The Police have registered a case under wildlife Protection Act, 1972, 27 Forest Act against the six people and handed over to the Jajpur road forest range officials today.

Acting on a tip off that the endangered Olive Ridley species were being transported to Digha in a private bus, police conducted raids at Panikohile and seized 145 numbers of olive ridleys sea turtles from the bus.

The arrested persons confessed before the police that they have brought the olive Ridley sea turtle from a sea side village near Paradeep on Wednesday to deliver the consignment at the hotels in Digha.
