Noted writer opposes introduction of English in schools
Udupi, Dec 21 (UNI) Renowned writer and Nadoja awardee Dr Kayyara Kinnahina Rai, who had strongly opposed the Karnataka Government's decision to introduce English as a subject from first standard, today said Kannada and Sanskrit should be given priority in schools till tenth standard.
Inaugurating eminent poet Thi Na Shree's centenary celebrations as part of Muddanna Sahityotsav at MGM college here, he criticised that though the Britishers have vacated the country over 50 years ago, Indians still remained slaves of English. English could be taught to children after SSLC, but one should have pride and respect for Kannada, he added.
Dr Rai urged the authorities that all deliberations in courts be held in the respective regional language as it could be easily understood by the commoners. Governments should appoint judges from the respective region who had full knowledge of the regional language.
A freedom fighter and a key person in the Kasaragod border struggle, he reiterated that Kasaragod district of Kerala was a part and parcel of Karnataka and it was deliberately included in Kerala.
