MP rural youth centres to promote tribal sports
Bhopal, Dec 21 (UNI) The sports directorate of Madhya Pradesh is planning to set up rural youth centres in predominantly tribal areas to identify and nurture sports talents among the tribals.
In the first phase, rural youth centres will be set up at block headquarters of 11 predominantly tribal districts, while such centres would be set up in other seven districts in the second phase.
President A P J Abdul Kalam would launch the scheme with the inauguration of the centre at Amla block in Betul district, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia said.
Under the scheme, a vehicle would be provided to each centre to help in searching hidden sports talents in tribal villages. The selected youth will be imparted adequate training to prepare them for participation in national and international events, she said.
Ms Scindia said Rural Youth Coordinators had been posted in 8 districts on contract basis on monthly wage of Rs 2,000. Each centre would be provided Rs 4,000 for purchasing equipments and maintenance of building and sports ground.
