Nanded, Malegaon blasts case to CBI: M'shtra
Mumbai, Dec 21: Maharashtra Government today decided to hand over the investigations into Nanded and Malegaon bomb blasts case to the CBI.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told mediapersons at Mantralaya that the decision to hand over the investigation was taken as the government had given an assurance to this effect in the just - concluded Winter Session of the State Legislature in Nagpur.
Political parties and Muslim organisations had demanded that the Malegaon blast case be handed over to the CBI.
The blast in Nanded had taken place in Patbandhare Nagar in which two people, allegedly Bajrang Dal activists, had died. Police had recovered crude bombs and other material used for mixing of explosives from the blast site.
The local Bhagyanagar police had arrested 16 people in this connection and are in the process of filing chargesheets against 12 accused. The blast had taken place on April 5 this year.
Similarly, three bombs had exploded in Malegaon on September 8 during the Shab-e-Baraat. There were two blasts near the Hamidiya Masjid and Bada Kabrastan and one at thee Mushavarat chowk.
As many as 31 people had died and 312 received serious injuries. So far, eight people have been arrested under the provisions of MCOCA and Prevention of Illegal Activities act. The case was being probed by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
