Govt approves plan of new terminal building at Ahmedabad airpor
New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) The government today approved the construction of a new international terminal building alongwith city and air side development at Ahmedabad airport at a cost of Rs 290.92 crore.
The international passenger traffic at this airport was 3.73 lakh during 2004-05 which is forecast to grow 15 per cent this year. In the next 10 years, the traffic is estimated to be 11.14 lakh passengers.
In the first phase, the new terminal building has been planned to handle 1,000 passengers -- 500 arrivals and 500 departures. In phase two, the capacity will be increased to 1,600 passengers.
The existing building will later be used for cargo operations.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had appointed global technical advisors and an Indian financial advisor to give suggestions on overall development of the aiport.
The project has been planned according to norms of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for various facilities and intelligent building management systems. The project will be funded from AAI's internal resources.
