Goa: Convention to honour global personalities

Panaji, Dec 21: Eight eminent personalities from Portugal, Kenya, Tanzania, the US, Australia and Austria will be presented with Global Goans Achievement Awards during the three-day Global Goans Convention beginning here on January 3.

Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane will inaugurate the event in the presence of Governor S C Jamir and several foreign diplomats and heads of the Ministry of external Affairs concerned with West Asia, West Europe and other countries.

The convention, according to Commissioner for NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro, Government of Goa, is open to non-resident Goans, persons of Goan origin, former NRG's and those interested in NRI affairs.

Those who will be honoured include Portuguese Economic and Social Council President and Former Health Minister Dr Alfredo Btuto da Costa, Institute of Oriental Studies (Lisbon) President Dr Narana Coissoro, Deputy Speaker of Kenyan Parliament Mr Fitz de Souza, Former Attorney General of Tanzania Justice Wolfango Dourado and history professor of University of California Emiritus, Prof Damodar R Sardesai.

Others who will also be falicitated at the event include, eminent opera classical singer knighted by the Queen of England Ms Patricia Rozario, famous artist, sculptor and painter of Austria Ms Leslie de Melo and Chairman and CEO of Transnational Corporation Fijutsu, Australia Mr Neville Roach, he added.
