File report on the killing of a Kashmiri by troops, SHRC to police
Srinagar, Dec 21 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to file a detailed report about the killing of a village numberdar by troops in north Kashmir recently.
Taking a suo-moto congnizance, the chairperson of the SHRC Justice M Y Kawoosa quoting newspaper reports said a numberdar Sonaullah Magray, was on way to a nearby mosque for offering morning prayers, when he was shot dead by the troops of the Rashitriya Rifles (RR) deployed there on December 18.
Justice Kawoosa directed the IGP of state police to file a detailed report of the incident by January 9, 2007.
The killing of Magray evoked wide spread condemnation and protest by the people. They alleged he was killed by the security forces without any warning.
A defence ministry spokesman said Magray was shot dead after he tried to flee away when challenged and asked to identify himself by the ambush party of the troops.
In another case, filed by Rehana, the SHRC member B N Tingloo recommended to the government one member of the deceased Abdus Salam Sheikh, who was a helper in Roads and Buildings Department, be provided a government job under the SRO-43.
