Factions in MDMK: Vaiko convenes emergency meeting on Dec 25
Chennai, Dec 21 (UNI) Amid reports that the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) is heading for a split with two party MPs raising a banner of revolt, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has convened an emergency meeting of party functionaries on December 25 to discuss the issue.
According to a party release, a meeting of District Secretaries, members of High-level Committee, Party Parliamentary Commitee, Political Advisory Committee and Political Analysis Wing will be held at MDMK headquarters 'Thayagam' here.
Party Presidium Chairman L Ganesan, MP, was the first to stir A hornet's nest when he praised DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Parliament for his efforts towards the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs.
Later, in an interview to a TV channel, he criticised Mr Vaiko's style of functioning and said the MDMK leader had lost his credibility due to frequent switching of loyalties between the DMK and the AIADMK.
Endorsing his view, MDMK Deputy General Secretary Gingee N Ramachandran, MP, gave an indication that they might quit the party.
Meanwhile, Mr Vaiko, who had undertaken a padayatra in Madurai district on the Mullaperiyar issue, maintained a stoic silence on the senior leaders' revolt.
Party sources said the meeting would discuss the crisis in detail and might decide on expelling the rebels from the party.
