EC's intervention sought for preventing misuse of funds
Jalandhar, Dec 21 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) former state president Manoranjan Kalia today sought intervention of the Election Commission in preventing the state government from misusing Rs 100 crore released by it recently under the Punjab Nirman Programme and the rural community development scheme.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Kalia said that this fund was released by the state government for disbursement in all 117 assembly segments of the state through youth clubs, sports clubs, mahila mandals and SC dharmashalas.
Mr Kalia, a former minister, said he feared misutilization of this fund for brigthening the electoral prospects of ruling Congress candidates and therefore, he had written to the Election Commission demanding freezing of the fund till the assembly elections in the state.
Mr Kalia also reiterated immediate enforcement of model code of conduct ahead of the assembly elections.
