Dispute over Sachar report unwarranted, says Pachouri

Bhopal, Dec 21 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri today said raking up a controversy over the Sachar committee report on the welfare of minorities was unwarranted.

Referring to BJP's criticism on the issue, Mr Pachouri told reporters here that the committee on minorities was set up on similar lines as such panels were earlier formed for women, children, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

He said though it was not mandatory to present the committee's report in Parliament, the Manmohan Singh government placed it to maintain transparency. Nobody would disagree with the fact that welfare of the minorities was urgently required. There is no politics in it, he added.
