Delhi to have Bus Rapid Transport System soon: Haroon Yusuf

New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) As part of its endeavour to ease pressure of burgeoning traffic in the Capital, the Delhi Government plans to introduce the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system corridor in the Capital by the end of next year, Delhi Transport and Power Minister Haroon Yusuf has said.

Speaking at a function last night to felicitate the elderly, Mr Yusuf said,''the first BRT corridor will be introduced between Ambedkar Nagar and Delhi Gate. The corridor will be exclusively for the buses and will help in enhanced mobility of the buses besides improving the frequency of the bus service.'' Apart from the introduction of the BRT, Delhi Government has also ordered new low floor buses for the benefit of the elderly and women.

''Due to low floor steps, it will be easy for commuters to climb and get down from these buses,''the Minister said while launching a magazine 'inspire' dedicated to the elderly.

The Minister said a high capacity bus is already running on normal roads from hauz Khas to Madras Hotel and 12 new routes - like outer mudrikas and those in South and East Delhi - have already been finalised for the new buses.

''More routes are to be decided soon. Being low Floor buses, the roads they would be running on would have to be restored. The height of speed breakers on these routes would have to be checked,''Mr Yusuf said.
