BJP MP's brother sent to jail in a murder case

Balasore, Dec 21 (UNI) A Vigilance officer, brother of Balasore BJP MP Kharavela Swain and three others were today arrested and sent to Jail today by a local court here on charges of murder.

The Balasore police arrested BJP MP's brother Amitabh Swain and his representative Krushna Narayan Das, watchmen Surendra Majhi and Sivnath Jena, a driver, last night under various sections of the IPC and produced them before SDJM Pratima Panda amidst tight security today. They were later sent to jail after their bail petitions were rejected.

Police said all the four accused allegedly beat up one Sanjaya Saxena yesterday suspecting him to be involved in stealing gold ornaments. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Another member of the gang was seriously injured and hospitalised.

Three robbers allegedly from West Bengal had approached Mr Swain's wife to clean her gold ornaments and in the process robbed the ornaments. Two of them however, were later caught at the railway station while trying to board a train and brought to the house of Mr Swain where they were severely beaten up.

Condemning the incident, the Congress party demanded resignation of BJP MP Kharabela Swain saying that the crime took place in his house.

The Opposition party had also called for a Balasore bandh on Saturday to protest the killing.
