Antony to inaugurate new CAIR campus at Bangalore tomorrow

New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony will inaugurate the new campus of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) complex, Bangalore, tomorrow.

The unified sprawling campus spread over 15 acres, will have four major buildings-- the Technology Block, Secure Systems Block, Systems Block and the Administrative block.

CAIR, under DRDO, was established in October 1986. Its research focus was initially in artificial intelligence, robotics and control systems.

In November 2000, R and D groups working in command control communication and intelligence systems, communication and networking, and communication secrecy in electronics and radar development establishment were merged with CAIR.

With this, CAIR became the premier laboratory for R&D in different areas of information and communication technology as applicable to defence.

CAIR is engaged in developing technologies needed for futuristic tactical communication network for the Indian Army.

The lab is assisting the user in specifying the system architecture and the subsystem specifications for their 'tactical communication system' to facilitate multi technology multimedia communication network across tactical battle area.

The Centre has been working in secure communication, authentication (including speech biometrics), network access control, traffic analysis and intrusion detection systems.

CAIR is also working on core technologies for unmanned and autonomous navigation of mobile systems. Both wheeled and tracked and legged miniature mobile robots have been developed.

It is currently developing a number of data mining tools using artificial intelligence and neural networks and is building software libraries to create a Data Miner's toolbox.

It boasts of an organisational strength of over 300 personnel, including more than 150 well qualified scientists, catering for users from defence services as well as other departments.
