Ahmedabad-Godhra to have sophisticated signal
Vadodara, Dec 21: The Railways have decided to install the most modern Solid State Inter-locking Signal system on the entire 175-km-long Ahmedabad-Godhra line via Vadodara to avoid accidents usually caused due to signal failures.
For the first time in Vadodara division, Japanese technology was recently installed at Samlaya station on Vadodara-Godhra section where 16 passengers were killed and about 150 others injured in April last year when Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express rammed into a stationary goods train following a failure in the signal system.
According to Vadodara railway divisional manager K L Pandey, the work to install the new ''full-proof'' system on the Ahmedabad-Godhra line via Vadodara would begin in a phased manner.
At present, only Ahmedabad-Vadodara line has an automatic signal system which would be extended upto Surat, Mr Pandey told reporters on the sidelines of a railway safety seminar organised by the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh here yesterday.
