''Save the girl child'' campaign in Rajkot
Rajkot, Dec 21: As part of a state-wide campaign, a three-day ''Matruvandana Yatra'' will be launched here on December 28 to spread awareness on the ills of female foeticide.
Gujarat State Urban Development Minister I K Jadeja told a press conference here today that the ''Matruvandana Yatra'' is intended at creating awareness among the masses on the ills of female foeticide which is the cause for disrupting a proper male-female ratio.
The ''Yatra'', while spreading the message of ''save the girl child'', will cover 128 kilometres during the three days, he informed.
During the ''Yatra'', people will be exhorted to sign a ''sankalp patra'', vowing not to undertake sex determination of their unborn child and not to commit female foeticide.
Apart from prominent citizens from the city, over 4,200 youth on two-wheelers and 100 ''sadhus'' will also participate in the ''Yatra'', BJP city president Nitin Bhardwaj, who was also present on the occasion, said.
