NMCC working on making India hub of key manufacturing sectors
Mumbai, Dec 20 (UNI) The National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) is working on a plan which will make our country the hub of some of the key manufacturing sectors, which includes the information technology (IT) sector and the textile sector among others.
''Our idea is to see how these sectors in the country are developed like a hub,'' member-secretary of NMCC, Mr V Govindarajan said while addressing the valedictory session of the 5th Confederation of India Industry's (CII's) 'Manufacturing Summit' here today.
He noted that in the case of the textiles sector, Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) was already there to give it a boost.
But the NMCC was trying to go beyond it while making recommendations to the government on the issue, he said.
He was enthusiastic about the proposed GST (Gross services Tax), which was likely to be implemented by the Union Government by 2010, introducing a unified tax regime in the country.
''Once implemented, it will help a lot in achieving the target,'' he opined.
However, he cautioned that facilitation was the most important thing, whenever we talk of the manufacturing sector's development.
''I'm trying at my level to persuade the State Government to come forward in the direction of removal of octroi, which is a long standing demand from the industry sector in the state,'' Maharashtra Industry Sectretary Mr VK Jairath said.
However, he pointed out that as the election code of code of conduct has already come into force with the announcement of polls for local bodies in the state, this issue can be brought on the floor of the State Assembly during the post-election session only.
''Every industry should come up with it's own SEZ plan to make progress in these sectors a speedy one,'' he advised.
