Lankan MPs meet CM, seek Indian intervention in Tamils' issue
Chennai, Dec 20 (UNI) A delegation of Sri Lankan Tamil MPs today called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and urged him to prevail upon India to play a pro-active role in the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
The delegation, comprising R Sampanthan, Mavai Senathiraja Selvam, Adaikalanathan, Suresh Premachandran and Gajendran Ponnambalam, met the Chief Minister at his residence and briefed him about the prevailing situation in the Tamil areas.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, the MPs said during an hour-long meeting, they gave Mr Karunanidhi a detailed account about the ''deteriorating situation'' in Sri Lanka's north and eastern parts.
They said the Chief Minister gave them a patient hearing and told them that he was aware of the situation in Sri Lanka and that he would take up the issue with the Congress led UPA government at the Centre.
The MPs said they planned to meet leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu as well as the constituents of the UPA Government at the Centre and main national opposition parties.
