Army Eastern Commander reviews Manipur situation
Imphal, Dec 20 (UNI) Lieutenant General Arvind Sharma, GOC-in-C Eastern Command, arrived at Manipur yesterday accompanied by Lieutenant General M.S.Dadwal, GOC 3 Corps.
He called on Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh last evening and briefed him on the security situation and the developmental projects being undertaken by Army and Assam Rifles in Manipur, the PRO of AR said.
He was accompanied by GOC 3 Corps, IGAR (South) and GOC 57 Mountain Division.
Having successfully completed two years as Army Commander of the prestigious Eastern Command, the General Officer retires on January one, 2007. During his illustrious career in the Army spread over 41 years, the General had the opportunity to serve in Manipur as GOC of 57 Mountain Division from April 1998 to October 2000.
Besides that, he was Chief of Staff in Eastern Command for six months before taking over the reigns of the Eastern Army.
The Army Commander said there will be a special place for the NE in general and Manipur in particular in his heart. He expressed that his dream of seeing Manipur as a peaceful and prosperous state would be realised soon.
