Rane pledges to improve farming on Goa Liberation Day
Panaji, Dec 19 (UNI) Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane today led Goa into paying rich tributes to those freedom fighters who were responsible for liberating the island state from the Portuguese-yoke on this very day in 1961.
Mr Rane declared his government was committed to removing regional imbalances besides improving agriculture and striving for all round development of the state.
Addressing a parade at the Campal Grounds to mark the 46th anniversary of Goa's Liberation Day after unfurling the national flag, the Chief Minister enumerated various developmental projects the Govenment had undertaken, like building an Information Technology (IT) habitat, special economic zone, pharma park and 6-lane express way.
Steps were being taken to boost infrastructure facilities in a bid to promote tourism, while encouragement is being extended to the setting up of eco-friendly industries in the state, like IT which had a huge potential to employ youth, he explained.
On the occasion, he also presented awards to several government officials and civic personalities for their outstanding contribution to development in Goa.
The recepients of these awards include the dean of Goa Medical College, Dr V N Jindal, and the principal of the Institute of nursing education, Mrs Carol Naronha.
