MCI to inspect IGIMS for MBBS course
Patna, Dec 19 (UNI) The Medical Council of India (MCI) has accepted the proposal of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, to start a MBBS course and shortlisted it for inspection.
Official sources said today that MCI would finalise the dates for inspection soon.
Earlier, the proposal of IGIMS had run into rough weather after MCI sought registration papers of the land where the hospital was located. In its reply to MCI, the IGIMS had maintained that the land was allotted by the state government and registration formalities were not required. It was only after the legal cell of the MCI vetted the IGIMS claim, did the governing body of the MCI conveyed its decision to short-list the institute for inspection.
Confirming the decision of MCI, director of IGIMS Dr A K Singh said, that the MCI has short-listed our institution for inspection and it will be done in future.
Among other parameters set by the MCI, the institution seeking recognition for this purpose should have a 300 bed hospital spread over a minimum of 25 acres of land. Besides university affiliation, the institution should be in operation for a minimum of three years, he added.
