Infosys Foundation reaches out to underprivileged
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 19 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today inaugurated the renovated Sree Chitra Home, an orphanage run by the state government.
The renovation work of the 50-year-old building in the heart of the city was carried out by the Infosys Foundation at a cost of Rs 45 lakh.
The home houses 280 underprivileged children -- 66 boys and 214 girls. Most of the inmates are between the age of five to 15 years.
The foundation renovated all the rooms of the home, including two dormitories each for boys and the girls, the toilet block, tailoring section, LP school, computer room and library, overhead tank, and the kitchen block and the dining area.
The Foundation also undertook complete electrical work with new fans and lights fitted in all four dormitories and the school building.
Promoted by Infosys Technologies Limited, the Foundation began its work in Karnataka, gradually extending its activities to the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Punjab.
It has successfully implemented projects in four key focus areas of healthcare, social rehabilitation and rural uplift, learning and education and art and culture, an Infosys release said today.
