IGRUA may get under foreign management control: Patel
New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The civil aviation ministry is exploring the possibility of giving management contract of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademy (IGRUA) to a large reputed international company, civil aviation minister Praful Patel said today.
The aim is to bring IGRUA up to international standards, he told the parliamentary consultative committee on civil aviation.
IGRUA's capacity has been enhanced recently and a new flying training institute is coming up at Gondia in Maharashtra, said Mr Patel. Approval had also been given to five more training institutes and flying clubs are being upgraded with new equipment.
To overcome the shortage of instructors at IGRUA, it has been made mandatory for private carriers to provide instructors to the academy on a part-time basis. Two Indian Air Force (IAF) officers have also joined IGRUA as instructors, said Mr Patel.
To overcome shortage of trained pilots in the country, foreign pilots are being given license, the minister added.
