HC gives green signal for implementation of CAS in Delhi
New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today gave green signal to the government to implement Conditional Access System (CAS) technology for the television viewers in the Capital from December 31, 2006.
While hearing a petition of Star Broadband Private ltd, a division bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Hima Kohli refused to grant a stay on the implemention of CAS.
The firm had sought direction to the government to defer the implementation of CAS technology by 15 days.
However, the Court asked the Government and the TDSAT and other respondents to file their replies by January 10, the next date of hearing.
In the meanwhile, the Union Government had advertised in national dailies about CAS implementation South Delhi from January 1, 2007.
The Star and Tata have launched Tata Sky, a direct-to-home (DTH) service, to view television through analog technology by the consumers.
The Hathway Cables had filed a petition in the court seeking direction for the implementation of CAS in the Capital.
Senior Counsel Ram Jethmalani, appearing for the petitioner had argued that the company had incurred a huge loss by manufacturing instruments for CAS after the notification for the implementation of the technology in the country.
