Hallmarking of gold jewellery must from Jan 1: BIS Official

Visakhapatnam, Dec 19 (UNI) The Centre has decided to make hallmarking of gold jewellery mandatory from January one, 2008, Bureau of Indian Standards Southern Regional Director T B Naryana said today.

Speaking at the awareness programme on 'Hallmarking of Gold and Silver Jewellery' organised by the BIS Visakhapatnam Branch here, he said the market survey of non-hallmarked jewellery, carried out in 16 cities, had declared 90 per cent of the samples as below the prescribed standards of purity.
