Defiant Dalmiya refuses to quit CAB, NCC
Kolkata, Dec 19 (UNI) Banished former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya today defied the BCCI resolution and refused to resign from the President's post of the Cricket Association of Bengal, claiming there was no such rule registered under the Cricket Board.
''There is no question of my resigning from the post of CAB president. The 38(V) amendment, as per which it is claimed that I cannot hold any post in any affiliate association, is an illegal and unregistered rule,'' Dalmiya exploded at a press meet here today.
He claimed that the last amendment done on 2000 was adopted in September that year but during a BCCI working committee meeting held in February 2001 it was decided to hold back its registration. So the rule had not been registered within a fortnight as required.
'' How can I be orderd to resign as the President of the affiliated units of BCCI under a rule that has not seen the light of the day?'' Dalmiya questioned.
He also alleged that ''the principle of natural justice was denied to him before expelling him for life from the Board'' and hinted at challenging the December 15 decision of the BCCI Special General Meeting.
He said different Board officials had been issuing statements against him ''which only showed their bias against me.'' He further said that the Board was aware of the fact that the amendment was not registered and hence they tried to do the same through the backdoor in September 2006, but the Registrar of the Societies denied them the condonment.
Dalmiya said he had been taking legal opinion in the matter and would decide about challenging the Board's decision in a few days.
''Till then I continue to be the CAB and NCC President,'' he said.
The SGM of BCCI, at its meeting in Jaipur, expelled Dalmiya for life for alleged financial irregularities and also debarred him from continuing as the President of the CAB and NCC, two of its affiliated units.
