The recommendations of the Commission, received on October 16 this year, are now being processed by the state revenue authorities to formulate a comprehensive compensation proposal.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court was today informed by the Punjab government counsel about the intention of the government to implement the recommendations of the Commission through the state revenue authorities.
Punjab Financial Commissioner Gurjit Singh Cheema also submitted a short note in the form of an affidavit containing the proposed plan for compensation, during the resumed hearing on the contempt petition field by Movement Against State Repression (MASR) headed by former legislator Inderjit Singh Jaijee.
The contempt petition was filed in view of the Punjab government's inaction in providing compensation to the affected families of the farmers in the face of hard facts of suicides reported particularly from the Malwa belt.
