Canal built to drain out water from still flooded Kawas
Barmer, Dec 19 (UNI) A three km long canal is being dug to drain out the flood water from the still- submerged Kawas village in Barmer district.
The administration said that 50 cusecs of water were being drained out from the area everyday. Barmer district Collector Subir Kumar said 12 high-powered pumps, installed in Thardiyo ki Dhani, are being used to remove the water from the village.
Facing criticism for not being able to drain out the water even four months after the floods, the district authorities have asked the officials of irrigation department and Indira Gandhi Canal Project areas to run the pumps around the clock to drain out the water.
At least 1,000 MF Ft water is still submerging Kawas and the surrounding area, spreading over six km including Sarkapar, is under 8 to 10 feet water.
Kawas and Malwa villages were totally submerged due to floods in August this year.
