AP govt adopts Bill to protect state property

Hyderabad, Dec 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh government today adopted a Bill to preserve, protect and resume certain property of the state in public interest and annual transactions of land to IMG Bharat by amending the present Acts.

Moving the Bill in the House, state Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao said the previous TDP government alloted 450 acres of land to IMG Bharat 'mortgaging' the state's interests. The lands were alloted to IMG Bharat during the care taker government, which did not have the authority to take major decisions keeping in view of the public interests. All the parties including TDP, CPI, CPM, TRS and BJP supported the Bill.

Earlier, state Primary Education Minister N Rajyalaxmi moved another Bill to amend the Andhra Pradesh School Education (Commuunity Participaton) Act 1998 which was adopted amidst uproar by the oppostion TDP, CPM, TRS and BJP protesting the bill and staged walkout. The objective of the Bill was to constitute committees at village level, in every government school by nominating the members.

The opposition parties demanded elections instead of nominations for the committees to implement Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme sucessfully.

Bill to amend the Andhra Pradesh Payment of Salaries and Pension and Removal of Disqualification Act 1953 was also adopted in the House. The TDP had opposed the bill.

The state government had adopted a Bill to amend the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta and UPA-Lokayukta Act, 1983 which was moved by the State Revenue Minister D Prasad Rao.

The objective of the Bill was to empower the Lokayukta and UPA-Lokayukta to complete the investigation within a period of one year, based on the recomendations of the high level committee on Anti-corruption. Later, the Assembly was adjourned for tomorrow.
