Recalling of Ganguly, Laxman paid rich dividends: Borde

Pune, Dec 18 (UNI) The recalling of experienced batsmen V V S Laxman and former India captain Sourav Ganguly has given the much needed solidarity to the middle order which paid rich dividends for India to post their historic win over South Africa, observed former National cricket Selection Committee chairman Chandu Borde here today.

While speaking to UNI, the former India skipper said it was a remarkable turn around by the Indians after being thrashed in the one-day series.

''I have full faith in the commitment of the team which they displayed in ample measure in recording their maiden triumph over South Africa at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, with a 123-run victory today''.

The Indians under the leadership of Rahul David, however, struggled in the ODI series due to the bouncy track but they got used to them by application and dedication, the former chairman said.

He lauded medium pacer S Sreesanth for his eight-wicket haul which earned him the 'man of the match' award and who was the architect of India's win.

Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan and seasoned campaigner leggi Anil Kumble were adequate in supporting roles and helped to turn the tide in India's favour, the former caption said.
