Punjab beat Delhi to lift Polly Umrigar Trophy

Patiala, Dec 18 (UNI) Punjab lifted the Polly Umrigar Trophy (Under-15) after beating Delhi on the basis of first innings lead here today.

Overnight 399 for eight, Punjab were all out for a mammoth 552 in 195.5. Pankaj Choudhary scored a sparkling 115, while Bhavish Goyal hammered a fluent 73. Both put on a 137-run partnership for the ninth wicket.

For Delhi, Manoj Chauhan bagged four wickets, giving away 158 runs in 68 overs. Vikas Misra and Vikas Singh took two wickets each, conceding 60 and 74 runs respectively.

In their second innings, Delhi scored 95 for two, though the match was only of academic interest, since Patiala had already taken a massive lead after Delhi were bowled out for a paltry 119 on the first day. Mohit Sharma scored 45 off 100 balls and was unbeaten, while the other not out batsman was Jaideep Chauhan with 23 when the umpires awarded the match in favour of Punjab. For Punjab, Sandeep Sharma took both the wickets, giving away 30 runs.
