Porcupine rescued; shifted to wild life home
Chennai, Dec 18 (UNI) Forest department officials today rescued a porcupine that got trapped in a water tank at the Government Regional Plant Quarantine Station at suburban Meenambakkam today.
Wildlife officials said the two-and-a-half-foot animal, weighing about 25 kg, was caught in a cage and later shifted to the wildlife protection home.
Officials suspect that the animal might have strayed into the premises from a nearby forest area.
The officials initially tried to catch the animal with a net, but in vain. Later a metal cage, with one side open, was inserted into the tank. The porcupine slipped into the cage and got trapped in it.
