Kumaraswamy pulls up bureaucrats for lapses
Bangalore, Dec 18 (UNI) Expressing concern over the delay in the implementation of budget programmes, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said a change in approach is needed if the Government has to achieve 95 per cent progress in the next three months.
Addressing a meeting of Deputy Commissioners, Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats and Secretaries to review the implementation of budget programmes, he said the officials had not performed up to the expectations of the people, despite the Government being ready to provide funds more than the budgetary allocations.
The administration had failed to take up drought relief works, housing projects and distribution of ration cards to Below Povetry Line families, Mr Kumaraswamy rued.
Stating that the officials should be answerable for the lapses and not offer any excuses, he said the Government could not tolerate such attitude by bureaucrats any more.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B S Yediyurappa, addressing the meeting, said the implementation of Bhagya Laxmi scheme was delayed mainly due to the delay in distribution of BPL cards. No more deadlines would be given by the Government, he added.
The Government had achieved only 43 per cent success in implementation of budget programmes and the rest should be achieved in the next three months, he said, adding that the officials would have to work hard to reach the target.
