Kamath stresses the need to identify internal entrepreneurs

Mumbai, Dec 18 (UNI) There is a need to identify internal entrepreneurs and encourage them by providing the seed capital required to start their journey as entrepreneurs, said MD&CEO of ICICI Bank, K V Kamath, here today.

Chairing a panel on the topic 'Intrapreneurship' during the second day of the ongoing TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) summit, Mr Kamath said the need of the hour was to promote each and every employee of a company to share their views and take decisions in the interest of the company independently and thus encourage their entrepreneurial skills.

Sharing his views with Mr kamath, one of the panelists of the session, Raghav Bahal, Chairman of TV 18 Group, said ''The CEOs should come forward to act as 'cheer leaders' and motivate their employees to emerge as entrepreneurs in their own capacities''. It will help them achieve higher goals on a continued basis, he added.

Citing the example of TV 18, he said ''When we had started it with a small office in Noida few years ago, we even didn't know that it will emerge as a vertical organisation having a hosts of subsidiaries on its fold what it is today''. Apart from TV channels like CNBC Awaz, the firm also runs its sister concerns like moneycontrol.com.

Prior to it, chairing another session on 'Inspirational stories of entrepreneurial successes', C K Prahalad, who is a Member of TiE global board of trustees and who is a Professor at Stephen M Ross School of Business, said ''The Silicon Valley phenomenon made it abundantly clear that the capacity for entrepreneurship and wealth creation is often latent and under the right circumstances, it can blossom''.

About the Indian scenario he said ''Entrepreneurship on a massive scale is critical to India. Poverty alleviation is not about subsidies and aid but creating self sustaining enterprises. The growth of self help groups and micro enterprises in India suggest an inherent capacity for entrepreneurship.'' Creating a social legitimacy to wealth creation and creating the enabling conditions will focus the inherent entrepreneurial energy of Indians as the telecom liberalisation has demonstrated, he said. He opined that TiE must unleash the latent talent-democratise entrepreneurship.
