CPI (M) to campaign against Mamata's bandh culture
Kolkata, Dec 18 (UNI) Opposing the proposed 48-hour "Bangla bandh", called by Ms Mamata Banerjee, the ruling Left Front today said it was aimed at serving political interest of the Trinamool Congress.
" Neither has the proposed bandh any political issue nor has it been called to serve the interest of the common people. We will launch a campaign against it, " Left Front Chairman Biman Basu said.
The Trinamool Congress called the bandh in protest against the alleged murder of a teenaged girl at Singur in Hooghly district, who was said to be a member of the 'Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee', a platform of different organisations, opposing acquisition of agricultural land for Tata Motors' small car project.
Alleging that calling frequent bandhs had been made a 'child's play' by Ms Banerjee, the Front Chairman said it was part of the Trinamool Congress plan to stall the process of development in the state.
" We will campaign among the people how the culture of bandhs which we are used to see in Bangladesh are being enforced on our state putting at stake the daily earnings of many people and hindering the development in the state, " he said.
Mr Basu also alleged that like on the previous occasions, the Trinamool Congress called the bandh on December 21 and 22 to prefix it to the holidays on the following three days so that the people lapped it up to make for a spell of five non-working days in a row.
Declaring that Left Front would counter the bandh 'politically', he said the ruling coalition would meet on December 20 to decide its strategy.
