Clash claims Army officer's life in Bangladesh
Dhaka, Dec 18 (UNI) A Bangladeshi Army officer was killed during an armed clash between two rival tribal groups.
Police said the fighting ensued between the two hostile organisations-- PCJSS and UPDF-- at Gilachhari in Naniarchar subdistrict of Rangamati hill district last evening. Hearing the firing, an army patrol moved to the spot and soon it turned into a triangular gunfight.
''As the firing didn't stop, another patrol led by Captain Nurul Azam Gazi rushed to the spot. Amid exchange of gunfire between the two terrorist groups, Capt Gazi was caught in the crossfire and hit by bullet in the head,'' said an ISPR release.
He was immediately flown to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital by helicopter where the duty doctors declared him dead, the military press wing said.
Army troops cordoned off the area for a massive manhunt for the gunmen.
