Brain drain prevention not feasible nor desirable; Govt
New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) The government today said in the Rajya Sabha it was neither feasible nor desirable to prevent brain drain.
Answering Mr Mysoora Reddy (TDP) Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandeswari said, in a written reply, the government had no central record about the number of engineers, doctors and scientists leaving the country for higher studies or employment.
In the present scenario of globalisation and liberalisation, the movement of technical and scientific personnel across the national boundaries were not only inevitable but in many cases, it would give positive benefits to the country, she said.
To another question, the minister said National Association of Software and Services Company (NASSCOM) had raised the issue of employability of engineering graduates in the country and the Working Group of the HRD ministry, examining the issue, had recommended Finishing Schools for engineering graduates to enhance their employablity and changes in syllabi in engineering colleges to make them compatible with the needs of the industry, she replied.
Answering another question, the minister said within the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), it was possible to provide training to 68 engineering graduate students as well as 31 diploma level technical institutions for one lakh population each.
