Remit income tax before due date, RBI tells public
New Delhi, Dec 17 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has advised the public to remit their tax dues in advance of the due date to avoid last minute rush at the end of the month.
''It becomes difficult for the bank to cope up with the pressure of receipts although additional counters to the maximum extent possible are provided for the purpose. Consequently, the public has to wait in queues for long periods,'' the central bank said in a statement here.
''To obviate the inconvenience involved, assessees in the city are advised in their own interest to avoid last minute rush by remitting their income tax dues in advance of the due date.'' The branches of State Bank of India, public sector bank branches, HDFC Bank Ltd, ICICI Bank, UTI Bank Ltd and IDBI Bank branches in the capital have been authorised to accept payment of income tax dues in cash or by cheque.
The assessees may take advantage of these arrangements made for their convenience, the RBI statement said.
