Naval expedition on Seabird boats arrives in Kochi
Kochi, Dec 17 (UNI) A sailing expedition of the Corps of Engineers, consisting of two Seabird class boats, arrived here today for a three-day halt on way to the Kavaratti Island in Lakshadweep.
The boats 'Skua' and 'Seagull' are on a sailing expedition from Mumbai from December six, via Goa, Kochi, Kavaratti, Mangalore and back to Mumbai, covering a distance of 2650 Km. They will leave for Kavaratti on December 20.
The expedition on Seabird harbour sailing boats, about 22 feet long, being led by Major K Karunakaran has a crew of four each. To sail such a boat across the sea is a formidable challenge and calls for the highest standards of leadership, seamanship skills, endurance and perseverance, a Naval spokesman said here today.
