Kerala to set up 8 coastal police stations
Thrissur, Dec 17 (UNI) The Kerala government will set up eight special coastal police stations with the help of the Central Government, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said today.
Talking to mediapersons at the government guest house here, Mr Balakrishnan said the first of these special police stations would be set up in the Neendakara port area in Kollam.
The equipment for these police stations would be provided by the Centre, he said.
Mr Balakrishnan said the state government was not planning to file a review petition against a recent Supreme Court judgement, setting aside the death penalty awarded to five CPI(M) workers in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha State vice-president K T Jayakrishnan on December 31, 1999.
He said the remarks made by the BJP leaders following the verdict were ''politically motivated''.
On the increasing incidence of political violence in Thrissur, the minister said he had directed the district collector to immediately convene an all-party meeting to tackle the problem.
All political parties should cooperate to put an end to such skirmishes, he added.
